High Definition: All That Glitters Posted: 31 Jul 2011 02:04 AM PDT ColumnWhen all that glitters includes your pretty face. It's great when a woman feels comfortable enough to walk out of the house without a stitch of makeup on, but there are times when a part of our womanly nature craves putting on something with an eye-catching, glinting sparkle that dances in the light. The right embellishments can make us feel vivacious, empowered, alluring, creative and daring. If you happen to live somewhere this summer where the sweltering heat is making your skin glimmer with sweat, use it to your advantage and create a sultry look by adding a little extra oomph in all the right places. Location, Location, Location The best places to add shimmer to are the planes on your face and body that naturally reflect light: - Tops of the cheekbone - Arch of the eyebrow - Inner corners of the eyes - Bridge of the nose - Peaks of the top lip - Center of the bottom lip - Collar bone - Shoulders Pro Favorites for Glitter, Shimmer and Shine Use any of these eco products alone or mix them into your favorite lip color, eyeshadow, blush or lotion for a customized glimmer unique to you! Jane Iredale 24-Karat Gold Dust It's Your Face, Not Liberace's Living Room Restraint: Most women are too heavy handed with their shimmering products and just end up looking like a disco ball. Women over 25 years of age should be very careful because too much shimmer in the wrong places accentuates aging areas on the face. No More Fly Aways If you are working with a powdered product, the glitter tends to fly everywhere and will start landing in places you never wanted it in the first place. One way to stop this is by using your finger or a more compact brush slightly dampened. For larger areas to cover, like the body, you can easily turn any powder into a cream or liquid by mixing it into a base of lotion, oil, or a balm like Revolution Organics All-Over Body Balm. Size Matters The rule for glitter is the chunkier it is, the flashier it will look, and the more finely ground the shimmer particles are the more refined it will appear. You get to decide how much flash your face can handle. Editor's note: Got a celebrity look you'd like to copy or a trend you'd like to see incorporating healthy, non-toxic makeup? Posted: 30 Jul 2011 10:04 PM PDT In a world gone mad, shorts emerge as a hot trend and thankfully, skirts are there to save us. You open up your summer dresser drawer and there are two pairs of worn out shorts. One pair, circa 1990, were for you used to hike a lot and wanted comfort and the other pair is what you considered “dressy” five years ago – and they’re now too tight around your belly. You realize that while the outside sun beckons your legs for a go-around, these same two pairs of shorts are the only ones you’ve ever liked, that didn’t balloon out on the hips, squeeze your gut unmercifully or resemble a pair of cropped yoga pants. You need to replace them…but where are the replacements? Did we happen to mention that shorts are the fun new summer trend? Gasp, gulp, cough… Let’s get real. It’s summer and shorts are what we are supposed to be wearing (on the beach, post surfing, hiking), but when it comes to prancing around town, this writer is going to bow out and place the shorts category alongside a strong disdain for sneakers. If I don’t have to wear them, sister, I am not. I say bring on the skirts and a respite from calling attention to everything I don’t want to. Here’s a list of skirts that are hip and stomach friendly: We love Nau’s sexy spin on a utility skirt. This bold, asymmetrical linen skirt is accented by cargo pockets, a kick pleat, tab buttons and a hip-loving adjustable waistband. Organic cotton/organic linen blend. $ 70 Prairie Underground’s Prairie Skirt Prairie Underground’s fully layered and lined, 100% organic cotton voile skirt features an elastic waist, and a fun, front adjustable tie that cinches and bustles the skirt or lets it go loose. $ 165 Shabd’s Citrine Strata Miniskirt Shabd’s hand dyed, silk miniskirt distracts with individually hand-dyed geode patterns sewn with alternating bands of color $ 224 You’ve got to have a go-to skirt and Spun’s Pencil Skirt might be that one. The elastic waist allows it to be worn comfortably on the hips or pulled up as a high-waisted style. Side seam pockets and front and back pleating add flattering details. $ 74 Kaight’s Harvey Faircloth Circle Skirt Harvey Faircloth’s circle skirt is complete “boho chic” with slanted side pockets and hitting on the natural waist. Made from vintage “Sante Fe” fabric. This skirt was made exclusively for New York City’s Kaight. $ 210 Filly’s Safi Skirt is to sweet to be true. Made from four layers of fine cotton voile gathered at the top in a band of organic jersey. $ 115 Made of organic slub jersey, this full mini skirt from Clary Sage Organics can be worn longer with the top rolled down or shorter with the top rolled up. Perfect for a tank top or fitted t-shirt. $ 69.95 Stewart+Brown always makes great easy skirts and their hemp Cinch Skirt is a great example of what we’re talking about. The skirt not only features a beautiful drape, it has a cinched drawstring on the hip to give a gathered effect. $ 112 Popomomo always makes us feel young and ready to have fun. This high waisted Pocket Skirt has three buttons down the back for closure and of course, big pockets at sides. $ 98 Image: TPWP EcoSalon | Conscious Culture and Fashion » Fashion Edit your submission |
Geri Halliwell Releases Line of Cheap-looking Prom Dresses! Posted: 30 Jul 2011 10:04 PM PDT Seems like Victoria’s not the only Spice girl to hit the fashion world. Former bandmate Geri, aka Ginger Spice, has also released her line of dresses just this month, but it seems like the two have different tastes when it comes to styling up.
Geri now has her own affordable line of dresses at fashion line Next, and her collection is now available at Old Billingsgate Market in London. The evening dresses start at just 89 pounds, but unfortunately, they look a little too cheap to wear. Even the models for the dresses looked unhappy with the designs, the fabric, and just about everything. Geri, are you really sure with this venture? Photos by Wenn.com Edit your submission |
Lavinia Turra from In Abiti Di Versi interview for livincool.com Posted: 30 Jul 2011 10:02 PM PDT Here we go with a great interview with the designer Lavinia Turra that was presented her release In Abiti Di Versi at the latest Pitti in Florence. Poem and t-shirt could leave together and be a part of the universe. After the jump an exclusive interview in italian.
More info: Edit your submission |
