One of the designers showing has been doubly busy: Melbourne’s Dhini showed a softer side than in previous years, and she’s also just launched her Dhini for Sportsgirl range into stores. “Arc Angel”—named for Joan of Arc, the inspiration for the range—features both tailored pieces and softer, more feminine pieces, from drop-waist dresses to cropped blazers. The one print is reminiscent of chainmail, as per Joan’s armour. The range is all made in Australia, and is priced between $ 100–$ 190.

Karl Lagerfeld launched the Chanel 2011-12 Cruise collection at a chic soirée last week at Cap d’Antibes on the French Riviera. The collection featured all the Chanel hallmarks, the traditional tweeds—although in refreshing shades of lemon—the beautiful embroidery and beading, sparkling star motifs and silhouettes that were just a little sportif for strolling along the beachfront. The most striking section featured black-and-white ensembles in everything from graphic evening gowns to swimsuits. No shades of grey here: this was covetable style at its best. The Cruise collection hits Chanel stores in November.
Teresa Palmer puts the longer skirt into practice with winning results. The gingham skirt gives a little nod to the ’50s, as do the belt-cinched waist and fitted top, but it still looks modern and fresh. She also proves that flats work for a chic daytime look, especially when paired with cool sunnies and a slouchy bag. Lunch, anyone?
Rising Australian stars Mia Wasikowska and Emily Browning hit the red carpet—and their sartorial stride—in Cannes last week.
