7 Great Color Combinations To Bring Out Your Mood

Posted: 19 Jun 2011 02:07 AM PDT

7 great color combinations to best suit your mood.

Thomas Carlyle, British essayist of the 19th century, wrote "If the cut of the costume indicates intellect and talent, then the color indicates temper and heart." To which we heartily agree. But how best mix and match your wardrobe for your mood? Check out these seven color combinations that you just might feel a connection to.

Sage and Sapin
We asked Alice Wu, co-founder and co-designer of sustainable line Feral Childe, to weigh in on some of her favorite color combos. As Alice told us "I love piling on different shades of the same color – like making an outfit with Kelly green, forest green and turquoise all at once." MWA_MWA of Chictopia went for a monochromatic yet startlingly dramatic look, pairing two similar and yet contrasting shades of green.

Pink and Red
Alice also told us, "for a more subtle effect, you can just go tonal, with a dusty pink and deep red." Zoe Saldana did just that in this dress by Parbal Gurung.

Silver and Gold
Feeling ready to glow? Consider matching metallics such as silver and gold. Heidi Klum made a bold, shimmery statement at Elton John's post-Oscar party in a dress from Julien MacDonald's fall 2009 collection.

Orange and Hot Pink
Consider color blocking in bright, vibrant colors to make a bold statement. Joanna Larido of Chictopia paired this hot pink skirt with an orange sheer top.

Red and Blue
What to make a bold statement? Think about loud, contrasting colors to give a shout-out to your brave personality. Doucette Duvall gives us this adorable piece made from 70% "rescued" materials.

Maroon and Aquamarine
Junebabie from Chictopia paired this maroon sheer skirt with a vintage aquamarine blouse. The color combination is startling yet utterly chic.

Brown and Blue
This sustainable peace silk tunic comes from silk harvested humanely in India from a silkworm-sparing technique. Using vegetable dyes, its contrasting color combo brings light against dark in a funky, fun manner.

Ikou Tschüss: A Swiss Fashion Label To Watch

Posted: 18 Jun 2011 10:07 PM PDT

Ikou-Tschüss is an indie brand that started as a hobby and has grown into a fully operating fashion business.

Ikou-Tschüss is Guya Marini and Carmen D’Apollonio, two friends who’ve coined their brand’s name on the fly: Ikou means 'let's go' in Japanese and Tschüss means 'bye' in German. Since 2006 when the brand started, Marini and D’Apollonio have never gone anywhere but up in terms of how recognized the indie label has become within the greater fashion industry.

Their site says the label’s earliest beginnings began with the two designers meeting every summer in Zürich and exchanging ideas, but the lack of proximity kept their collaboration from coming immediately to fruition.

“Guya stayed active in Paris, doing her styling; Carmen, in Zürich and sometimes New York, was kept busy as the invaluable assistant to Swiss artist Urs Fischer. Then, meeting up again in the beginning of 2006, the two decided to focus exclusively on making handmade knitwear and croched silk foulards. Guya showed the pieces to her friend Livio and Stephan from the Parisian press office. Livio and Stephan were instantly taken with the knitwear and in their excitement planted the seeds for what was soon to become Ikou-Tschüss, demanding that Guya and Carmen formally create a label for the work they had brought in.”

When it comes to sustainability and still a strong fashion appeal, their main focus lies in sourcing quality materials. Most of their wool is either 100% cashmere or merino, and the silk comes from fair-trade locations in either South America or Tibet. They also incorporate recycled or vintage materials whenever possible and embrace the long-held tradition of knitting and crocheting which they themselves learned while growing up in the Swiss capital.

Their designs are made by hand and “the process of doing the work is vital to the form the design takes,” says the site, so production is staffed exclusively by grandmothers, who retain the old craftswomanly approach to handwork—skills that Guya and Carmen feel are disappearing today.

Kou Tschuss is located at 8 Centre Market Place in New York City and online.

We are all lovers of Jennifer’s sense of style, but sometimes she’s taking her fashion trends way overboard they get to look tacky and nasty. Not that this outfit can be considered nasty.

While in London’s Capital Records Summertime Ball, the diva extraordinaire opted to wrap herself in a full snakeskin ensemble, with a top and skirt of white and black prints, and a matching knee-high boots courtesy of Christian Louboutin. Blake Lively Follows the Sheer Mistake Trend

Posted: 18 Jun 2011 06:04 PM PDT

Blake Lively is known to be truly stylish, but sometimes, like J. Lo, she makes a string of fashion mistakes on the red carpet which the fashion blogs could just not help but notice.

At the Los Angeles premiere of “The Green Lantern,” the redhead starlet wore a Chanel Couture disaster which looked  like a floating mini dress. The upper half was supposed to be just a pretty white frock, but it was unnecessarily supported with a white sheer chiffon train that only made her look tacky. We were already content with her pretty face and rustic-inspired hairstyle, but Blake ruined everything thanks to that dress.
