WATCH: Man Teaches His Adopted Dog To Recycle Posted: 22 Jun 2011 02:05 AM PDT Dog owners are likely familiar with the training basics of sit, roll over, poop outside. But for Keith Sanderson and his pet labrador, Max, they took it to the next level: recycling. "I thought, 'Gee maybe we could do something else?'" Sanderson said in an interview with Patch.com. "He's wired to be a retriever, so why not make him be a retriever… There's no pheasants or ducks around, so we did bottles." "We have a 40-gallon trash can full of cans and bottles that it took us less than a week to fill," he said. We think that’s a pretty green trick! Maria Francesca Pepe interview with livincool.com Posted: 21 Jun 2011 10:01 PM PDT Few questions with the London based italian designer Maria Francesca Pepe. LC: What/Who inspires you most during the creative process? I believe my work develops season after season and there are so many factors that define its results. Usually i need to be alone to gather that necessary state of mind to be creative. Then I like to share mu impressions with my amazing team. I am quit auto-referential i guess.. LC: What was the main idea behind your AW 2011-12 collection "Fortuna" presented during last LFW? I wanted to create jewellery as amulets, talismans which carry within themselves hidden meanings, reminiscences.. I think the actual meaning of a piece that you own is what it makes it special. Fortuna is the antique goddess that define your destiny and help you when things get tough. LC: The "Fortuna" collection featured so many masks. What do they stand for? What is the MFP woman hiding? It’s actually not about hiding. It’s the opposite. Masks can show a lot of who you are are. We choose our own masks everyday and fashion is the most glamorous of all. Masks are used in ritual to create a bond among people with the same belief, but it’s in the details what makes you different from the the others. I like to explore dichotomies and paradox. LC: "Jewellery wear" is your trademark. How did you first come up with this concept? It’s MFP at its essential. I have moved the focus of my work from clothing to jewellery when I started with my brand and I think this revolution of the prospective in conceiving fashion is very contemporary and functional at the same time. I basically work on the accessories not as an ‘accessory’ but as the main element to build up a look around it. Some of them are actually conceived as dresses themselves. LC: You once said that that fashion, as a form of art, should be more experimental. What encourages you to experiment and in which ways do you enjoy doing it? My creativity encourages to experiment. And the fun I have creating. I think experimenting means not becoming boring in what you do and not getting bored. You could repeat yourself when it comes to sell pieces which have been working very well commercially wise, but still you can always try hard and look at them from different prospective and find out new solutions, inspirations, materials, people to work with.. LC: As a young – still really successful – designer, what do you think emerging talents need the most? I reckon I have still to go a long way myself before feeling satisfied with my career. I think this constant searching and effortless passion for what you do is the drive you must have to succeed. Still never loose yourself in the process and always be proud of you are and where you come from. LC: You moved to London few years ago. In which ways do you think this is the right place to be for an emerging designer? What is lacking in Italy instead? London is open to young creativity and the people in the business take you seriously even if you are just out of a school. The BFC invest on young talents to That’s what encourage designers to work on their own brand instead of going to work for other people. Italy ha a business model which is very different, but they are opening to young talents through competitions such as Vogue Talents, Who’s Next, It’s.. MFP has been part the VOGUE Talents Corner last season and it brought great exposure. LC: You have been particularly press-blessed in the next years. How much incisive can the role of the press be? It’s definitely what gives you reasons to keep investing into the business , cause you know one day it will pay you back. Still you need to keep feeding the press and make sure they stay true to the brand’s identity. LC: Your designs have received a lot of hype from celebrities (e.g. Lady Gaga). Do you think nowadays celebrities are the key to a broader success for designers? They are indeed, just because they reach an amount of potential customers you could hardly get to unless you have massive adv budgets. Celebs like Gag or Rihanna are strong supporters of young designers and I think that’s a mutual benefit since their image stay fresh and original. LC: What was your most gratifying achievements so far? And what are you looking for at the moment? Definitely having dressed Lady Gaga several times, as well as winning sponsorship such as NewGen and Vogue Talents. Interview by Gaia De Siena Photos by Emanuele D’Angelo Edit your submission |

No Joke: Weird Al Parodies Lady Gaga, Proceeds Go to Charity Posted: 21 Jun 2011 06:03 PM PDT There was a question as to whether it would ever see the light of day, but it’s finally here: the spoof video “Perform This Way” from Weird Al Yankovic, parodying Lady Gaga‘s “Born This Way.” And it takes the “Weird” in Weird Al to a whole new level. The video features Al’s face (always done up in Gaga-esque makeup) superimposed on the body of a female dancer (who has pretty killer abs!). The resulting image is enough to either make you laugh or haunt your dreams. Or both. The song itself pokes fun at Gaga’s outlandish style and performance art (or gimmicks) with lyrics like these: ”I’m sure my critics will say/It’s a grotesque display/Well they can bite me, baby I perform this way/I could be wearing swiss cheese/Or maybe covered with bees/It doesn’t mean I’m crazy, I perform this way.” Here’s the best part: all proceeds from the video and the song, which you can download on iTunes for $ 1.29, will go toward the Human Rights Campaign. Weird Al tends to do this sort of crazy nice stuff, and he’s a vegetarian too, so he’s more than just a head of curly hair and a knack for ironically hilarious rhymes. Check out the video below, but beware of the weirdness! ecorazzi.com :: the latest in green gossip » video Edit your submission |

Posted: 21 Jun 2011 10:02 AM PDT We women have so much guidance when it comes to fashion, after all, there are TV shows and magazines dedicated to that exact subject, but it can still be daunting to go shopping and find something that actually suits you. It's even harder for plus sized women who have to perform a balancing act with their bodies to try and get everything to look in proportion. This can be especially hard in the matter of plus sized dresses. After all, you don't always want to be swamped in mounds of material to hide those so-called 'problem' areas. There's no reason why you shouldn't flaunt the curves you've got, and there are a couple of dress designs in the collection of plus size dresses at the K & Co shop that will let you do just that. First of all there's the wrap dress. The design on this dress is perfect for emphasizing your bust while hiding wider hips or a wobbly tummy. Wrap dresses are fitted underneath the bust, giving you a little boost in the cleavage area. The good news is that you don't just have to stick to dark colours, you can also opt for bold patterns and colours with this kind of design. A maxi dress is also a great option for larger ladies, although this is a design to avoid if you are on the short side, since the sheer amount of material can swamp you. A maxi dress in a halter design or with an empire line cut can work wonders for a plus sized figure. Make sure that the dress gives you plenty of support in the bust area though and try to avoid strapless designs if you are top heavy. Another style of dress that really suits curvier figures is the 50s style prom dress. The longer skirt length and fuller skirt help to skim over your hips and bum, and if you go for a halterneck style it can help to balance out your larger bottom half, while offering support up top. Make sure to wear with heels or wedges for extra height. Glamour Vanity » Celeb Fashion Trends Edit your submission |
