Marijuana Legalization In Colorado Limited To People 21 And Over
The recently formed Moms and Dads for Marijuana Regulation, which supports marijuana legalization in Colorado, unveiled a new billboard advertisement on Thursday. The billboard is located across the street from the Denver Broncos' stadium and features a man embracing his teen son and stating: "Please, card my son. Regulate the sale of marijuana and help me keep it out of his hands."
Residents of Colorado will have the opportunity this November to legalize marijuana possession and allow regulated sales of marijuana in their state. If approved by voters, the Regulate Marijuana Like Alcohol Act (Amendment 64) would allow for the limited possession and cultivation of cannabis by adults age 21 and over. It would also allow the state and local governments to enact regulations on the commercial production and distribution of marijuana, as well giving local governments the option to prohibit marijuana sales altogether.
"Far too often, we hear opponents of reform using teens as a reason to maintain marijuana prohibition," Georgia Edson, a Denver-based mother and licensed clinical social worker, said. "They are simply playing on the fears of parents. The true dangers related to marijuana come from its illegal status. Like the father portrayed in the billboard, I would feel much more comfortable knowing that marijuana was being sold in regulated stores where sellers would be checking IDs."
Last year, Colorado became the first state in the nation to begin issuing licenses for businesses that sell medical marijuana and marijuana-infused products. The state has also formally asked the Drug Enforcement Agency to reclassify marijuana. Currently, the DEA classifies marijuana as a schedule I drug: the most restrictive classification reserved for dangerous drugs with no real medical value.
Although Colorado has legalized medical marijuana, those who distribute the drug still risk running afoul of federal law. The Obama administration's Department of Justice has made a practice of not prosecuting medical marijuana patients in states where the drug has been approved, but it still considers distributors to be fair game for prosecution.
Anne Sinclair tossed philandering ex-IMF chief Dominique Strauss-Kahn out of their Paris home last month, reports say.
He had been accused of rape by a Manhattan maid and attempted rape by a French writer and was being investigated over ties to a prostitution ring in France.
"He's in a bad way. It's very sad," a person who knows DSK told Reuters. "He's shunned by everybody."
The one-time presidential contender and his New York-born heiress wife — who had posted his $1 million bail in the now-dismissed rape case — had been living separate lives, the French magazine Closer reported. Sinclair recently was named news editor of the Huffington Post's French edition, while he has been bemoaning his lack of career options, the mag said.
The pair has been married 20 years.
Nafissatou Diallo, the maid at Midtown's Sofitel Hotel who last year accused DSK of rape, has a civil suit pending against him. He maintains their encounter in his suite was consensual.
The Manhattan DA had the rape charge dropped amid doubts over her credibility.
Sounds like she was more sick of him being unemployed than the cheating. SMH.
Terrell Owens can rest a little easier … because his XXX self-pleasure pics will never see the light of day … TMZ has learned.
The woman who was shopping the graphic photos … and they were GRAPHIC … tells us she’s had a “change of heart” and will NOT sell the pics to anyone, for any price.
In fact, the woman says she’s already destroyed her copies … telling us, “They have been deleted and no longer exist.”
The seller also admits she was NOT the person on the other side of the X-rated Skype convo with T.O. … and claims she found the pics on a computer she bought from her friend.
“I don’t personally know him and have never spoken to him.”
She adds, “I don’t want this to continue and it shouldn’t of happened to begin with.”
Sounds to us like T.O. might have skipped a child-support payment to give this broad a couple dollars to shut up.
Looks like Miami Heat player Dwayne Wade will be home kissing on his NBA championship trophy and his lil banger boo thang while watching the London Olympics on television with the rest of us.
Dwyane Wade needs surgery on his left knee and will miss the London Olympics.
The Miami Heat guard called USA Basketball chairman Jerry Colangelo and coach Mike Krzyzewski on Thursday and let them know that he is not healthy enough to participate in the Olympics. Wade was playing through pain for much of the postseason, yet still averaged 22.6 points during Miami's five-game win over Oklahoma City in the NBA Finals.
Wade tells The Associated Press that the situation is disappointing. Wade and his doctors are in the process of scheduling the surgery.
Wade was the leading scorer on the team that won Olympic gold in Beijing four years ago. He also played for the U.S. on the squad that won bronze at Athens in 2004.
Eva Longoria and Eduardo Cruz have broken up. The “Desperate Housewives” star and younger brother of Penelope Cruz have split, according to Web site Celebuzz, even though Longoria just said in April, “I’m in love,” while promoting her new NBC show “Ready for Love.” She was also seen kissing Cruz last week.
But, a source told the site that the pair are over after more than a year together, and that they remain friends. “There are no harsh feelings,” a source additionally told E! News of the split. Longoria and the younger Cruz began their relationship last February, soon after the actress broke up with her NBA star hubby Tony Parker.
NAACP Protests Proposed Gun Offender Registry Law In Wealthy African-American County
A law that would require members of the community convicted of gun-related crimes to check in with police every six months is in the works in Prince George’s County, Maryland.
The NAACP chapter of Prince George’s County, which is the wealthiest African-American majority county in the nation, says they are not havin it.
The Prince George's County's chapter of the NAACP is hoping to stop County Executive Rushern L. Baker III (D) from signing a countywide gun offender registry program into law, claiming the law is unconstitutional.
The registry program, passed June 5 by the County Council with a 9-0 vote, would establish a police-kept registry for those convicted of gun-related crimes who would have to check in with police every six months for three years in addition to providing information such as phone numbers and where they live and work.
Legislation for the registry was introduced by County Councilwoman Karen R. Toles (D-Dist. 7) of Suitland and co-sponsored by the entire council to serve as "a deterrent to gun offenders" to reduce the amount of gun-related crimes and homicides in the county, Toles has said.
Members of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People met June 21 to discuss their opposition, saying the bill violates the 14th Amendment to the Constitution, which prohibits governments from depriving a person's life, liberty and property without first taking certain steps to ensure fairness. In addition, they are citing flaws in similar legislation in Baltimore for a gun-offender registry that is currently up for potential appeal after a city circuit court judge said April 6 that the legislation was unconstitutional and too vague.

The latest in Spike Lee’s Chronicles of Brooklyn anthology–which also includes “She’s Gotta Have It” (1986), “Do The Right Thing” (1989), “Crooklyn” (1994), “Clockers” (1995), and “He Got Game” (1998)–RED HOOK SUMMER tells the story of Flik Royale (Jules Brown), a sullen young boy from middle-class Atlanta who has come to spend the summer with his deeply religious grandfather, Bishop Enoch Rouse (Clarke Peters), in the housing projects of Red Hook. Having never met before, things quickly get off on the wrong foot as Bishop Enoch relentlessly attempts to convert Flik into a follower of Jesus Christ. Between his grandfather’s constant preaching and the culture shock of inner-city life, Flik’s summer appears to be a total disaster–until he meets Chazz Morningstar (Toni Lysaith), a pretty girl his age, who shows Flik the brighter side of Brooklyn. Through her love and the love of his grandfather, Flik begins to realize that the world is a lot bigger, and perhaps a lot better, than he’d ever imagined.
